GWIM strives to recognize faculty who are devoted to the ideals of academic medicine. To this end, we hold the GWIM Annual Awards Reception, which includes the presentation of several awards.
- Estelle Ramey Mentorship Award
- John Eisenberg Career Development Award
- Karen Gale Outstanding Achievement Award
- School of Nursing & Health Studies (SNHS) Mentorship Award for Faculty in Health Studies
The John Eisenberg Career Development Award was established in 2002 and is given annually to four faculty who are selected to attend the Association of American Medical Colleges’ Women Faculty Professional Development Seminar, or a similar conference consistent with GWIM’s mission of promoting a professional and academic culture that supports the professional advancement of women faculty at Georgetown University Medical Center. This is a competitive selection process in which eligible faculty who show the most potential for leadership within GUMC are selected to attend. Eligibility criteria for AAMC seminars are outlined by the Association of American Medical Colleges.
The Estelle Ramey Mentorship Award was established in 2000 to honor faculty who have provided outstanding encouragement, support, and mentorship for Georgetown medical women faculty employed by Georgetown University and MedStar Health to reach their maximum professional potential. The Estelle Ramey Mentorship Award winner will be selected by an electronic voting process after nominations are received. All faculty are eligible to be nominated for this award.
Karen Gale GWIM Outstanding Achievement Award
In the Fall of 2008, GWIM established the Karen Gale GWIM Outstanding Achievement Award. This award will be given to a faculty member within Georgetown University Medical Center and MedStar Health who has demonstrated outstanding achievement through research, education or service, who is recognized at a national or international level, and who supports and/or serves as a role model to the women faculty of the GUMC/MGUH community.
Eligibility for Gale Award Nominees: Faculty member with a Georgetown University appointment.
Eligibility for Gale Award Nominators: Faculty member with a Georgetown University appointment.
School of Nursing & Health Studies (SNHS) Mentorship Award for Faculty in Health Studies
The School of Nursing & Health Studies (SNHS) Mentorship Award for Faculty in Health Studies was first presented in 2017. The award acknowledges mentoring as a valuable skill in which a faculty member serves others in promoting their professional achievement, development, and socialization into the academic role and community, thus promoting a culture that supports the professional advancement of women faculty at Georgetown University Medical Center.
Eligibility for Nominees: Faculty member with an appointment at the School of Nursing & Health Studies (SNHS).
